ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year 2024: Three Indians make cut with Jasprit Bumrah as lead pacer

ICC Men's Test Team of the Year 2024: Three Indians made it to the team -- out of which Jasprit Bumrah shone the brightest in the year gone by.

After announcing the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year, the apex body announced the Test Team of the Year as well, that had three Indians in the XI. While Yashasvi Jaiswal was the opener of the team, Ravindra Jadeja took the spot of the spinner/batter, and Jasprit Bumrah as the main strike bowler. Aussie Pat Cummins was named the skipper of the side that also had the likes of Joe Root and Kane Williamson as well.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Deserved Opener

England managed to have four players in the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year 2024, including Ben Duckett, Harry Brook, Jamie Smith and Root. Two New Zealanders, Kane Williamson and Matt Henry were also named in the XI, while skipper Cummins remained the only Aussie. There was a big surprise when Sri Lankan Kamindu Mendis name was also included.

Ravindra Jadeja Only Spinner

As expected, no Pakistan player including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan or Saud Shakeel — got a chance to be part of the team. Likewise, no Indian player could find a spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year 2024.

If one was to look at the performances of the Indian players in the format, in the entire year, Yashasvi Jaiswal went on to score 1478 runs in the calendar year, to fall short of Root’s tally. As far as Ravindra Jadeja is concerned, it wasn’t his best year by any stretch of imagination, but he still made it to the team, where he went on to score 527 runs at an average of 29, and then even picked 48 wickets at an average of 24.

Jasprit Bumrah Must Have in ICC Men’s Test Team

Lastly, Jasprit Bumrah picked astounding 71 wickets in the entire 2024, and finished with an average of only 14.92. In the IND vs AUS series, he was a notch above everyone and picked up 32 wickets in 5 matches, despite being injured for the majority of the last Test in Sydney.
