The International Cricket Council (ICC) will begin a four-day meeting in Zimbabwe on Thursday, April 10, which would be a historic first for Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC). The high-profile gathering will initially take place in Harare on April 10 and 11, before moving to the scenic Victoria Falls for further deliberations on April 12 and 13.
LA28 Olympic qualification assessment on radar?
Although the formal agenda has not been made public, the inclusion of cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics—confirmed just a day before the meeting—makes it likely that the format and qualification system for the event will be discussed.
Only six teams each in the men’s and women’s categories will compete at LA28. It came as a bit of a surprise that only six slots have been put forward for cricket, a sport that is making a comeback after 128 years.
With such limited slots, finalizing a fair and inclusive qualification pathway is expected to be a major challenge. There’s a huge possibility that the United States, as the host nation, may receive an automatic berth. Also, with India being a giant of the sport and boasting insane number of viewership, the Men in Blue are bound to make their way into the LA Olympics 2028.
