ICC comes down hard on time waste, amends concussion substitute rule

ICC came down hard on the waste of time between matches as it made changes to the concussion substitute rule

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced a change in the concussion substitute rule in an attempt to curb the waste of time during matches. The amended rules, which came into effect on December 12, 2023, include the concussion substitute rule, the time taken for on-field injury assessment and treatment.

As per the amended rule, the player brought in as the substitute will not be allowed to bowl if the replaced player was suspended from bowling at the time of concussion. Further, ICC also set a time of four minutes for on field assessments and treatment of injuries.

The ICC has modified it’s stumping rule which has been been overly exploited by the fielding team. For a stumping check, the DRS checks the caught behind before moving to the stumping. As per the new rules, on a stumping review, only stumping will be checked and not caught behind.
