The International Cricket Council (ICC) has received severe criticism for the Champions Trophy Final ceremony. For the uninformed, after the India cricket team won the tournament, no official from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was present at the trophy presentation ceremony.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Roger Binny, and Director of New Zealand Cricket (NZ) Roger Twose were present in Dubai. But despite being the hosts of the ICC Champions Trophy, no PCB was to be found.
Why were no PCB officials present at Champions Trophy Final ceremony?
It was later revealed that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi wasn’t available, and that’s why he didn’t attend the Champions Trophy Final. However, PCB COO Sumair Ahmad Syed and PCB Director Usman Wahla were present in the stadium and yet weren’t called to the stage.
“Mr. Naqvi was unavailable and didn’t travel to Dubai for the final,” an ICC spokesperson told Geo.tv.
ICC has answered why this happened. Why neither the PCB Director nor the COO was there at the trophy presentation ceremony in Dubai. The reason is simple. Only the president, vice president, chairman, or CEO of boards is invited to the stage. Since the PCB didn’t send any of those mentioned above, Pakistan has no representation.
“The ICC only invites the head of the host board—such as the president, vice president, chairman, or CEO—to participate in the awards ceremony. Other board officials, regardless of their presence at the venue, are not part of the stage proceedings,” an ICC spokesperson told Geo.tv.
