The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) finds itself in a race against the clock to complete renovations at the National Stadium Karachi ahead of next month’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With the prestigious ICC event set to begin on February 19, and the opening match featuring Pakistan and New Zealand scheduled at the venue, the urgency to finish the work is palpable.
Karachi Stadium not ready for ICC Champions Trophy?
The PCB has opted to relocate all scheduled matches from the stadium to expedite progress and avoid disturbances. “Due to the ongoing construction and renovation work it was decided against holding any matches at the NSK as it would only further delay the work and also disturb the players,” one official said. As a result, the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final was shifted to the UBL Complex, while Karachi has lost its hosting rights for the upcoming Test series against the West Indies, now slated for Multan.
The Rs 12 billion renovation project, encompassing major upgrades across NSK, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, is ambitious. Key upgrades include new dressing rooms, media centres, hospitality boxes, an electronic scoreboard, and improved spectator facilities.
