Agenda 1: IPL to last for 2 and half months? –

As things stand there will be discussion on the upcoming T20 World Cup. It is expected that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will also have talks on Indian Premier League window extension with all stakeholders (overseas boards).

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has already made it clear that for IPL there will be a window of 2 and half months. The BCCI has been putting together a plan for the extended run where the number of matches in the IPL could increase significantly.

“From the next FTP cycle, IPL will have an official two-and-a-half-month window so that all the top international cricketers can participate. We have had discussions with various boards as well as the ICC,” Jay Shah had told PTI.

Why IPL needs an extended window?

This year the IPL expanded to 10 teams, two more than the usual 8. Although there was a group system to calculate the number of matches against a particular opponent, they will try to avoid such a system in future. The plan is to revert to home and away format which will increase the number of games.

The new plan will see an even distribution of matches for teams. The new system could see 18 matches per team apart from the playoffs.

Agenda 2: Selection of New ICC Chairman:

As things stand a proposal to elect a new ICC Chairman is on the agenda as current Chairman Greg Barclay will see the end of his term. While the names of the new Chairman are yet to be disclosed, it is very much likely that India could have a say as it previously dominated the post.

Both Jay Shah and Sourav Ganguly had shown interest in holding the top ICC post. With both BCCI office-bearers set to enter a cooling period, they may have to step down from the BCCI posts.

Previously the likes of Shashank Manohar and N. Srinivasan have held the post from India.

Agenda 3: PCB to put forward three-nation tournament proposal-

The PCB is also expected to floor their idea of three nation tournament, which they have been pushing for a while now. The PCB is looking towards a three-nation T20I series to be played annually that establishes cordial relationships between PCB and the gigantic cricketing boards such as Cricket Australia and ECB.

The original idea was to involve India into the plans, but as things stand poor political and diplomatic relationship between the two nations has resulted in India not being part of the plan.
