I will reduce six months: Rishabh Pant’s bold reply to doctor when told about recovery time

Pant was given a 16–18 month recovery window after the ligament in his right knee was damaged in his unfortunate accident on December 30, 2022.

After being out of action for nearly 13 months due to his unfortunate car accident, Indian star cricketer Rishabh Pant has revealed what his mindset has been like as he prepares to make his comeback.

Pant was involved in a life-altering car crash on December 30, 2022, while he was on his way to his house in Roorkee. The wicketkeeper batter luckily survived but suffered a ligament injury to his knee and lacerations on his forehead.

Ever since then, Rishabh Pant and the cricket fraternity have been waiting for his return. Now, 13 months later and with nearly two left before he finally makes his comeback in the upcoming IPL 2024 for the Delhi Capitals, Pant has revealed what his recovery process has been like.

“I am focusing on recovery, cut off from the world. It helps me in recovering fast, especially when the injury is so serious. For recovery, you have to do the same thing every day. It’s boring, it’s irritating, it’s frustrating, but you have to do it,” Pant said on the Star Sports show, ‘Believe: To Death & Back’.

Rishabh Pant revealed that he needed clarity as to when he’d be able to make his comeback. When the doctors told him that his recovery window would be somewhere between 16 and 18 months, the wicketkeeper stated that he confidently replied to the doctor that he’d cut his recovery time by six months.

Till the time I start playing cricket, I don’t want to plan much for the future. I asked the doctor how long will it take for me to recover. I told him that everybody is speaking different things, but you will give me the most clarity about it.

“He (the doctor) said it would take 16 to 18 months. I told the doctor, from whatever timeline you give me, I will reduce six months from it.”
