Former Indian Test team vice-captain Chesteshwar Pujara is eyeing a return to the national team. The dependable batter was dropped for the West Indies series after the debacle in England in the WTC Finals against Australia. Currently in England and playing the One-Day Cup, England’s domestic cricket stint, Pujara is hopeful to make a comeback to the National squad.
Pujara is in fine form in England. He went on to slam his second ton of the tournament to help his side win the tie against Somerset by a margin of 4-wickets. Tasked to chase 319 runs, Pujara’s crucial 117-run knock off just 113 balls helped his side claim a difficult win. Boosted with confidence after his ton for Sussex, Pujara claimed that he was hopeful for his comeback.
“It’s always about getting as many runs as possible in whatever games I play. I am still in the scheme of things. So, I hope that the moment I start scoring more runs in first-class games, I will be back in the team. But I will try and be in the present, try and take one game at a time. But I will try and be in the present, try and take one game at a time,” Pujara said.
Mentioning that consistency is key, Pujara is now hell-bent to carry on his good form so as to get his chance back in the Indian Cricket Team. In his last outing for the Indian Team, he managed to score just 41 runs in the World Test Championship (WTC) Finals in England against Australia. India was handed a shameful 209-run loss.

After India returned to India, both Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane were dropped from the team and didn’t find their name in the Test match series against West Indies. Pujara now has been dropped from the Test squad for a second time in 16 months showcasing that the veteran batter has to score big to retain his spot in the team.
As for the Indian team, the Men in Blue are now busy with white-ball cricket and will continue to do so in the coming months. India next plays a Test match in December.
