“I was trying to waste time”: Sam Konstas admits wasting time before altercation with Jasprit Bumrah

Sam Konstas slammed a brilliant 60-run knock on his debut Test innings in Melbourne

Young Australian opener Sam Konstas hogged the limelight after featuring in the last two Test matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. In his debut in Melbourne, he slammed a fine 60-run knock. But he is now more famous for altercations between Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. He himself admitted wasting time on Day 1 of the Sydney Test.

The incident took place at the end of Day 1. The Indians were trying to finish the over fast so that they could bowl another over. But Usman Khawaja changed his batting stance twice much to the frustration of bowler Bumrah. To waste further time, Sam Konstas then was involved in a war of words at the non-strikers’ end with Jasprit Bumrah.

“I feel like I love being in the contest and trying to put my best foot forward. I feel like it’s probably a good learning for me. I was trying to waste a little bit of time there so they didn’t get another over. But he had the last laugh. Obviously he is world class and he took, what, 32 wickets in the series. If that happened again, maybe I wouldn’t have said anything,” Sam Konstas told The Daily Telegraph.

Sam Konstas dotes on Virat Kohli

This is not all. On his debut Test, he and Virat Kohli were involved in a standoff. While changing sides after the over, Kohli apparently shoulder-barged into the youngster. This event caused major mayhem in the Australian media. However, Konstas claimed that he idolizes Kohli.

“I had a little chat after the game telling him that I idolise him, and it’s obviously a huge honour playing against him,” Konstas said. He was very down to earth. A lovely person and just wishing me all the best saying hopefully I go well on the tour of Sri Lanka he said if I’m in,” Konstas added.

He further claimed that he had a wonderful chat with Virat Kohli. He claimed that he informed Kohli about idolizing him. He further claimed that he dotes on Kohli by explaining how the ace Indian batter has changed the complexion of the game.

“He’s changed the game with his batting style, the way he goes about things. He’s good in all three formats, for such a long period of time. Hopefully one day I can aspire to be that,” Konstas concluded.
