I played slow: Shikhar Dhawan blames himself for last over defeat in RCB vs PBKS match

Although Dhawan was the highest run-scorer for his side in the match, his strike of 121.62 was the lowest for any batter who played 20 or more balls in the match.

Instead of throwing his batters or bowlers under the bus, Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shikhar Dhawan has decided to take the blame for a slim 4-wicket defeat. Having opened the inning, the southpaw failed to get going. The 38-year-old ended up facing the most balls (37) in the inning and managed to score just 45 runs.

After the loss, Dhawan came out and took complete ownership for the defeat. In the post-match interview, he said:

It was a good game; we brought the game back, and again, we lost it. We scored 10-15 runs less, and in the first six overs, I played slow. Those 10-15 runs cost us, and the dropped catch as well. I am happy with my runs, but I thought I could have played a bit more fast in the first six overs; that’s the only thing I felt.

On what was the turning point of the match, Shikhar Dhawan said:

“Virat scored 70-odd runs, and we dropped a catch of the class player; we paid the price. If we had taken that catch, we lost the momentum, and then we paid the price for that. It looked good, but it wasn’t a very true wicket; it was stopping, bit of double bounce and turned as well. 60% coming good, 30% it was doing a bit.”

“We lost wickets as well; we lost two wickets continuously, and that put pressure on us. At the end, that’s the total we thought on this wicket. The match went till the last over, at the end also we could have bowled well. He’s bowling really well, especially bowling against left-handers, tremendous the way he soaked in the pressure and got us the breakthroughs.”
