The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are gearing up for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with a reinforced bowling attack, with pacers Shardul Thakur and Mustafizur Rahman bolstering their squad. According to CSK’s bowling coach Dwayne Bravo, the team’s bowling roster has significantly strengthened compared to the previous season.
Notably, CSK led by MS Dhoni won the IPL for a record-equalling 5th time, last year.
Enhanced Bowling Arsenal for CSK
Speaking at an event in Chennai as per TOI, Bravo expressed his excitement about the team’s bowling depth.
He highlighted the addition of Shardul Thakur and Mustafizur Rahman, along with the return of Mukesh Choudhary and Deepak Chahar, as key factors in bolstering CSK’s bowling arsenal. Bravo emphasized the team’s improved attack and his eagerness to work with the bowlers alongside fellow coach Eric Simons.
“We have our baby Lasith Malinga in (Matheesha) Pathirana. Mukesh (Choudhary) is back, and so is Deepak (Chahar). Also, it’s good to have Shardul back in the team. And Fizz (Mustafizur) is also there. So, this squad is very good. We have a lot of depth. These guys add to what we had last year, and we have a better attack now. I’m excited to work with them along with Eric (Simons), the other bowling coach,” said Bravo.
Death Bowling Specialization for IPL 2024
Addressing concerns from the previous season regarding death overs bowling, Bravo, renowned for his prowess in death bowling, outlined his role in refining CSK’s bowling strategy.
He attributed the team’s success in death bowling last season to meticulous planning and execution, stressing the importance of skill and bravery in T20 cricket.

With CSK poised to enter the IPL 2024 season as strong contenders, Bravo remained optimistic about the team’s prospects. While acknowledging CSK’s status as favourites, he emphasized the need for thorough preparation and cautioned against complacency. Bravo also praised the leadership of MS Dhoni, highlighting his influential role within the team. Commenting on MS Dhoni’s new hairstyle, Bravo expressed admiration for the CSK captain’s style and leadership qualities, affirming the team’s unity under his guidance.
Bravo said: “His leadership speaks for himself, and you know we enjoy every moment playing under his leadership. He is always looking fit, I like his new hairstyle, it’s cool.”
