Ahead of the inaugural Major League Cricket 2023 (MLC 2023) season opener between the Texas Super Kings (TSK) and LA Knight Riders, Devon Conway has playfully poked his Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opening partner, Ruturaj Gaikwad. In a video released by TSK’s social media handle, Conway claimed that Ruturaj will be a bit jealous of him, opening with former South African skipper and CSK player Faf du Plessis.
Ruturaj and Faf have a great bond. They opened the batting for two seasons in the IPL and were instrumental in CSK’s title run in the 2021 IPL. The duo scored 756 runs together and averaged 47.25 in 16 games in their dream 2021 season. The openers also made a bulk of CSK’s runs that season, making 1268 runs between them.

Since 2022, however, Ruturaj has opened the batting with Conway. The duo have been equally remarkable and added 775 runs together in IPL 2023 (CSK’s fifth IPL Title). The duo have been the most successful IPL pair since 2022 and have stitched four hundred-run and nine fifty-run stands together since they started batting together.
Conway on Ruturaj and enjoying himself with TSK
“It is great to be amongst the group and getting some time in the middle. Yeah, batted with Faf (du Plessis) yesterday in the practice game, it was great to bat alongside him,” said Conway on the sidelines of a practice session.
“I know Rutu (Ruturaj Gaikwad) is going to be a little bit jealous, but yeah it was great batting with him, just watching him go about his business. He smashed it from ball one. So, yeah a lot of good things to learn from him and just enjoying my time here with Texas Super Kings,” Conway said.
The New Zealand batter will now be seen batting alongside Faf on July 13 at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas.
