Pat Cummins’ Rs 20.5 crore bid baffles Australian great

Cummins is the second-most expensive auction pick in IPL auction history.

Former Aussie quick Jason Gillespie has expressed his opinion on Australian skipper Pat Cummins raking in Rs 20.5 crore in the IPL 2024 auction. The two-time World Cup champion felt that Cummins getting AUD 3.67 million was too rich for the Aussie skipper. Gillespie called the price tag attached to Pat “massive overs.”.

Talking with SEN Sportsday SA about whether Pat Cummins didn’t deserve the whopping bid, Gillespie said, “I think so.”

Gillespie also questioned Cummins T20 credentials. The former quick claimed that while the Aussie skipper is a great Test bowler, he doesn’t feel his T20 skills are up to par.

“Pat’s obviously a quality bowler and a quality leader; we’ve seen that. I just don’t think T20 is his best format.

“I think he’s a Test bowler, personally. I think Test cricket is his absolute bread and butter.

“He’s a good T20 bowler; make no mistake. But that’s massive overs for me.” Gillespie said on Pat Cummins.

Pat Cummins doesn’t deserve the big buck, but Mitchell Starc does

While Jason Gillespie criticised the move to pick Cummins for a massive sum, he backed Mitchell Starc going for big bucks.

“I think it just highlights how important teams value left-arm fast bowling and left-arm swing bowling at pace,” Gillespie said.

“I think he’s a great buy. It’s a lot of money; we all acknowledge that, but the IPL is a very rich tournament. I’m absolutely delighted for Mitch,” the former pacer concluded.
