Australia Cricket Team batter Marcus Harris is aiming for a comeback into the squad. The retirement of David Warner has opened a spot in the top order and Harris will be aiming to take back his spot. Harris believes that he hasn’t anything wrong that he needs to change to warrant a chance in the squad.
Citing the example of Usman Khawaja who knocked Harris from his spot 2 years back, Harris now wants to play the best cricket that Khawaja has done to cement his spot in the team.
“I’d like to think I haven’t done much wrong for that to change. I feel like my performances over a long period of time have stayed consistently at a good level. I feel like I’ve done what I’ve needed to do,” Harris told the Sydney Morning Herald.
“The perfect case in point is probably Uzzie. You hear how in 2019 he thought he was done, probably never play again. His last two years have been the best cricket he’s played. You don’t lose belief because you weren’t dropped on the basis of form. That keeps your spirit up. “I think I’m in a better position with the experiences I’ve had previously,” Harris added.
At 31 years, Harris is aiming for a comeback into the squad. While Khawaja is certainly undroppable, but the vacant spot that will be left by warner is up for grabs. But it will not be a walk in the park for Harris who will be facing strong competition from Cameron Bancroft and Matt Renshaw.
“I think in this day and age, you can’t write anyone off. I feel like my frame of mind if you get down in the dumps you can feel that way a little bit. I’d like to back myself and think I’ve got plenty of good cricket ahead of me. If given the opportunity, I can take it with both hands,” he concluded.
