Kolkata Knight Riders batter Venkatesh Iyer stood out on Friday for his gritty 70-run knock against Mumbai Indians that helped KKR post a total of 169 runs. Iyer, who has been a regular starter for KKR since last season, has helped his team out in tricky situations in the past too. Ever wondered where the fighting spirit of the KKR batter comes from? The answer is simple: WWE.
Venkatesh Iyer, in an episode of Knights Dugout Podcast, revealed that he is a big fan of WWE. The KKR batter said he hates it when people call WWE fake. Iyer said that he realises the WWE fights are fake, but likes them for the storyline.

“I like it for the storylines & I hate it when someone says it’s fake. I know its fake, obviously. I started watching it when there was no social media. So, I used to think that the characters shown on the screen were true. For the longest time, I used to believe that The Undertaker died and was resurrected seven times. By the time I realized it was not true, I was already too deep into its fandom. I could not come out of it then,” Iyer said.
Iyer’s love for WWE was not unknown. He met WWE Superstar Great Khali in a mega event in Hyderabad. The photos and videos of Indian all rounder Iyer interacting with WWE stars surfaced on social media last year.
