“I don’t see him left out for England”: Sanjay Manjrekar dissects KL Rahul’s inconsistency

In the IND vs AUS series, despite slamming two fifties, KL Rahul could only finish with 276 runs in 5 matches, at an average of 30.

There were a lot of concerns over KL Rahul‘s form in the lead up to the India vs Australia series, but then he showed a lot of promise in the first three Tests, and even got a couple of fifties. But by the end, he started to fail again, pretty much, what has been the story of his entire Test career.

Inconsistent KL Rahul in IND vs AUS

One of the biggest problem could be, his changing batting order, but then, the reality is, he has been given, more than a decent rope in the Test team. Sanjay Manjekar wasn’t much impressed with his performances, and highlighted the same issue. “I think now we know what KL Rahul is about. We were talking about him being India’s best batter at the start of the series. He looked so compact, then got that 80 in Brisbane as well. We thought this might just change his career in the right direction. Then you saw the failures again,” Manjrekar was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Rahul Still in IND vs ENG Series Contention

“I don’t see him being left out for England considering that India still are looking for an opener. They don’t want to go to [Abhimanyu] Easwaran and KL Rahul, the last time he was there, played well. So, I see that opening combination continuing, unless Rohit Sharma comes in and throws spanner in the works,” he added.

Just for the record, KL Rahul has played 58 Tests in his career, and scored only 3257 runs at an average of 33. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, in the five matches, apart from the two fifties, he didn’t give a good account of himself. Overall in the series, he could only score 276 runs at an average of 30 only.
