Didn’t think he was talented: Wasim Jaffer’s shocking remark on Virat Kohli

"When Virat Kohli came back after winning the U-19 WC, he still many flaws in his batting," said Wasim Jaffer in a podcast.

Former Indian opener and Punjab Kings batting coach Wasim Jaffer has an interesting take on Virat Kohli. While comparing two legends — Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, Jaffer made a shocking remark. He said Kohli did not have any special talent. But his dedication and hard work made him the star he is today. King Kohli will be in action in Asia Cup 2023 in a week’s time. He is also the star India Cricket Team is banking on to land World Cup 2023 trophy in November.

Speaking on a podcast on the Sports Launchpad YouTube channel, Wasim Jaffer also talked about India’s team combination for the upcoming World Cup 2023 apart from reflecting on his cricket career.

Kohli had many batting flaws: Wasim Jaffer

“When Kohli came back after winning the U-19 WC, he still many flaws in his batting. He was very young and wild and had faults in his batting. However, he worked hard on his weakness and came out as a totally different player 2-3 years after,” Jaffer said in the podcast.

Jaffer, however, had little hesitation in naming Virat Kohli ahead of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. To note, the Delhi-born batter is considered to be one of the front-runners to go past Tendulkar’s towering feats in ODIs.

The right-handed batter was last seen in action during the West Indies tour last month. He featured in the two-match Test series and the first ODI. While Virat Kohli didn’t get a chance to bat in the only ODI he played, he registered scores of 76 and 121 in the two Test innings.

Virat Kohli along with other team India members are in a 6-day camp in Bengaluru. They will head to Sri Lanka for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 on August 30. The Men in Blue will take on arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2.

The encounter will take place at the Pallekele National Stadium. Rohit Sharma & Co will be hoping to defeat Pakistan in the opening match and have a perfect start to the tournament.
