India’s World Cup triumph in 2011 may be synonymous with MS Dhoni hitting the winning six, however, Yuvraj Singh is also credited for his all-round show throughout the WC, while battling cancer. Shubman Gill is also batting dengue and has missed two matches already. While dengue and Cancer cannot be compared, Yuvraj wants Gill to take a leaf out of his book and has asked Gill to be ready for IND vs PAK clash.
Gill hit the nets ahead of the match against Pakistan tomorrow. It is still not clear whether the 24-year-old will play against Pakistan. Yuvraj, though has a simple message for the Indian opening batter, ‘Get ready for IND vs PAK clash.
“Shubham Gill ko maine tagda kar diya hai [I have strengthened Shubham Gill]. I told him that I had played in the World Cup while battling cancer, so I got ready quickly to join the team. Hopefully, he will be ready for the India vs Pakistan game.
When you have a fever and dengue, it is really tough to play a cricket match, and I have experienced that. So I hope that if he is fit, then he will definitely play,” the 41-year-old said to ANI.
Shubman Gill in IND vs PAK?
Gill had a good training session yesterday. This is the biggest positive news for team India, as a few days back, he just got discharged from a hospital in Chennai. India batting coach Vikram Rathore was optimistic about the right-hand batter playing against Pakistan.
“He’s (Gill) recovering well. Yes, he was hospitalized, but it was more though as a precaution. He’s back in the hotel in Chennai and is recovering well. So, he’s being monitored by the medical team. We are hoping that he will recover soon and would be looking good,” India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour had said before the Afghanistan game.
Gill is a key player in the Indian team, as he is the highest run-scorer in ODIs in 2023. He perfectly compliments Rohit Sharma at the top by mixing caution with aggression. If Gill misses out on playing against Pakistan, then Ishan Kishan will continue to play as an opener.
