The retention rules for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction have finally been announced, enabling franchises to strategize for the upcoming event. In last year’s mega auction, teams were allowed to retain a maximum of four players. However, this time, franchises have the option to retain even more players, providing greater flexibility in squad building. How many players can franchises retain before IPL 2025 mega auction?
Teams can retain up to six players through either direct retention or the use of a Right to Match (RTM) card. Out of these, maximum of five capped players can be retained and maximum two uncapped players can be retained.
How much money franchises have to give to retain players?
The auction purse has been increased by INR 20 crore, bringing the total to INR 120 crore (approximately US$ 14.3 million). If franchises wish to retain a player, they will need to pay INR 18 crore for the first retention, INR 14 crore for the second, and INR 11 crore for the third. For the fourth player, they will again need to pay INR 18 crore, and for the fifth retention, INR 14 crore. Meanwhile, uncapped players can be retained for INR 4 crore.
