According to media reports, the BCCI is inclined to maintain the 3-4 player retention rule for the IPL 2025 mega auction.

As reported by Sportstar, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal stated that teams would be allowed to retain only three to four players on their rosters, with the remaining players needing to be purchased at the auction to ensure fair competition among all teams.

IPL teams and the BCCI held a meeting on August 1 to discuss the upcoming IPL auction. During the meeting, franchises expressed their concerns, particularly about the retention rules. They advocated for an increase in the number of players that can be retained and suggested that the auction should be held every five years.
