India’s best-ever T20 fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, may have never played for the country. Instead, we could have seen the unorthodox pacer represent Canada. That means there could have been a strong possibility that the pace spearhead could have gone against the India cricket team at the T20 World Cup 2024.
The pacer, who’s currently playing for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024, revealed his plan to settle in Canada if things hadn’t turned out the way they have. Talking with JioCinema, Bumrah’s wife, Sanjana Ganesan, asked the pacer, “You wanted to go to Canada and set up a new life there?”
Jasprit Bumrah on his ‘backup plan’
Jasprit Bumrah revealed that he’d had these conversations with his family, as some of his relatives live in Canada. However, his mother wasn’t in favor of leaving India, and then his dream of playing in the IPL and international cricket came true. He said:
“We have had these conversations before. Every boy wants to make it big and play cricket. Every street has 25 players who want to play for India. You have to have a backup plan. Our relative lives there. I thought I will finish my education and…my uncle lives there. First we though we would go as a family, then my mum did not want to go there as it’s a different culture. I am very happy and very lucky that things worked out, Otherwise I don’t know I would have tried to play for the Canadian team and do something there as well. Glad it worked out here. I am playing for the Indian team and Mumbai Indians.”
