India are all set to commence their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign by locking horns with Ireland on June 6. The ICC, who have already been accused of favouring the BCCI, look like they have handed a free pass to India to proceed to the Super 8. The Men in Blue are placed in a group that consists of three minnow teams and Pakistan.
Has ICC favoured India yet again?
India’s biggest challenge in the group stage is probably just Pakistan, the most anticipated clash in the marquee tournament. The clash will take place on June 9 at the Nassau County Cricket stadium in New York. They will commence their campaign by taking on Ireland first on June 5.
The other matches for India in the group stage include games against Canada and USA – both teams which are playing their first-ever T20 World Cup. In this context, India would be playing just one match against a strong opposition before the Super 8 stage. It can be interpreted as ICC’s desire to ensure that both India and Pakistan can make it to the next stage easily, which would draw more attention towards the marquee event.
