How did Mitchell Starc dismiss Yashasvi Jaiswal for a golden duck? Pacer reveals plan

Starc has bowled 78 balls to Jaiswal across three innings and gotten him out twice.

0, 51, 0—these are Yashasvi Jaiswal scores against Mitchell Starc. The 22-year-old has faced the left-arm pacer thrice in Test cricket and has failed to get off the mark twice. Has Starc worked something out that other bowlers haven’t? Did he have a special plan in place just for Jaiswal? The veteran pacer says no.

Starc’s “nothing special” plan for Jaiswal

“At the stumps, hit the pads. That’s it. Nothing special.” Starc revealed to ICC after the first day’s play in Adelaide. The pacer did exactly that, but it was far more complex. Not only had the ball swung away from the left-hander more than 3 degrees but also seamed back into Jaiswal, who was caught stuck at the crease. It wasn’t the regular caught in front-of-the-stumps dismissal.

“That’s been my role for a while: to attack the stumps and try and make early inroads. Pleased to sneak one past today. We know how important it is to make early inroads into this batting lineup. It’s always a nice way to start. It is a big Test match; it’s a big series,” Starc added.

Starc’s pink ball prowess

Known for his prowess with the new ball, Starc was at his best throughout India’s innings, which lasted 44.1 overs. Although Starc has been bowling well since Perth, the reason for his career-best figures is the pink ball. The left-arm might just be the best bowler to ever hold the pink ball in hand.

Starc’s got 361 wickets at 27.85 in his Test career. That’s the red and pink ball, both combined. But when he holds the pink cherry, these numbers improve by a huge margin. His average falls down by more than ten. 72 wickets at 17.81, that’s his record with the pink ball.
