How can Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer play for Team India despite no BCCI Central Contract?

Despite having no BCCI Central Contract, how can Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan still play for Team India?

Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer has been axed of their BCCI Central Contract for 2023-24 cycle. This means that the duo won’t be a part of the Indian Cricket Team. But that is not the end. Despite not having the contract, both the players can still play for Team India. It will be a special case where the players won’t have a contract still, but will only get the match fees.

The rebel duo of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer where axed of their BCCI Central Contracts. The duo failed to take part in domestic cricket despite being asked to do the same by Rahul Dravid and Jay Shah.

“Please note that Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not considered for the annual contracts in this round of recommendations,” read the BCCI statement.

“The BCCI has recommended that all athletes give precedence to participating in domestic cricket during periods when they are not representing the national team,” the BCCI statement further added.

Since the duo doesn’t have a central contract yet, it means their chances in the ICC T20 World Cup is severely limited. It can be assumed that the duo won’t be in contention for the India Squad. Even if Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer perform well in IPL 2024, their chances are relatively bleak.

How Can Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan Play for Team India?

For the duo to play for India they can only play if they receive a call up. Should they fulfil the pro-rata basis, they still won’t be eligible for a BCCI Central Contract.

For fulfilling the pro-rata basis they need to play either 10 T20I matches or 8 ODI matches or 3 Test matches for the Men in Blue.
