Bangladesh cricket team veteran Shakib al Hasan has hinted at not being a part of the upcoming AFG vs BAN ODI series. The all-rounder, who was scheduled to play his farewell Test against SA in Dhaka, skipped the series and did not return home due to “security reasons”. Now, his participation in the three-match series against Afghanistan that gets underway from November 6 is in doubts.
Shakib al Hasan unsure of being part of AFG vs BAN ODIs
As per Cricbuzz, Shakib al Hasan claimed that it was for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to decide if he will play in AFG vs BAN ODIs and not his. He added that he had not recieved any communication from the board yet. On the contrary, the BCB is also unsure about the all-rounder’s participation and no decision was taken by the selectors on Shakib.
“How I can tell (whether I will be playing the ODIs against Afghanistan or not) BCB should tell about it,” Shakib al Hasan told Cricbuzz.

Shakib al Hasan had announced his plan to retire from Tests during IND vs BAN series in August. However, he did not return home for the SA Tests, citing security reasons despite assurances from the BCB and the interim government. The cricketer-cum-politician, who was a part of the Awami League government, has a murder case lodged against him where he has been named alongside former PM Sheikh Hasina. Shakib hasn’t been in Bangladesh since the political upheveal and violence that broke out earlier this year.
Shakib al Hasan initially had planned to stay his retirement in ODIs until the completion of Champions Trophy in 2025. However, it remains to be seen if the veteran will be a part of the white-ball setup in the future, given the uncertainity over his return to Bangladesh.
