Disney+ Hotstar is witnessing unforeseen technical issues across their apps and web. The streaming service confirmed that their team is working on this to ensure the issue gets resolved soon. As per reports, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kolkata, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chandigarh registered the most outages.
With Amazon Web Service (AWS) also reporting outages in certain parts of the world, the Hotstar outage can be attributed to AWS. Other reports suggest that Hotstar’s domain expired on Friday, and the OTT service failed to renew it leading to the outage. Disney + Hotstar however are yet to confirm the reason for the blackout.
Fans were certainly displeased given they missed the start of the IND vs AUS 2nd test. #HotstarDown was trending on Twitter with users complaining with screenshots of their errors. Hotstar reflected PB-4000 error. Some users received an NM 4000 error. The two errors occur when the website fails to detect location. But for many users, it was just a blank page with no error code.

Disney+Hotstar is India’s most used OTT platform with a 29% market share. With Disney-Star holding BCCI Media Rights, the platform exclusively live streams India’s home matches. The Disney-owned streaming service has a subscriber base of 57.7 Mn as on December 31, 2022. After losing the IPL media rights, Disney+ Hotstar lost 3.8 Mn subscribers in the October-December quarter of 2022.
The error follows ICC’s recent blunder. The International Cricket COuncil recently crowned India as World No.1 in Tests. It was several hours later that ICC corrected their mistake. They also issued an apology regarding the same.
