Star Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made a surprise visit to the Chennai Super Kings Academy in Salem recently, interacting with students and sharing his cricketing knowledge. This visit, which took place during the ongoing TNPL 2024, served as a major source of inspiration for the aspiring young cricketers.
Ravichandran Ashwin highlights talent
Ashwin, a former CSK player himself, was particularly impressed by the surge in talent emerging from Tamil Nadu’s districts. “Over the last 2-3 years,” he noted, “11 out of the 15 players in the Tamil Nadu Under-16 and U-19 squads are from districts. When I played, there would be only five players from districts.”
He attributed this positive development to improved infrastructure and a growing acceptance of cricket as a viable career option.
Improved Facilities fueling Growth
Ravichandran Ashwin contrasted his own experience with that of the current generation of players. “When I went for cricket coaching first, we didn’t have facilities like what you have at this age,” he reminisced. “We would play only on weekends, and we would spend the weekdays waiting for the weekends.”
He emphasized the importance of better infrastructure and coaching in nurturing young talent. Additionally, he acknowledged the role of supportive parents who encourage their children to pursue cricket.
Ravichandran Ashwin visit: Spark of Inspiration
Ashwin’s visit served as a significant motivator for the students at the CSK Academy. His words of wisdom and personal anecdotes undoubtedly ignited a fire in these young athletes, encouraging them to chase their cricketing dreams with even greater determination. Initiatives like the CSK Academy, which strive to make cricket accessible across various regions, are crucial in fostering this growth, and Ashwin’s visit is a testament to their positive impact.
