Royal Challengers Bengaluru are currently on a roll, having registered their second consecutive win in IPL 2025. This recent win is certainly a big one, as the team defeated Chennai Super Kings by 50 runs, marking their first victory in Chennai in 17 years. Their last win at Chepauk came in the 2008 season under Rahul Dravid’s captaincy.
Chasing a target of 197 runs at Chepauk Stadium, Chennai’s team could only manage 146 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs, as many batters came and went without making much of an impact. Although former captain MS Dhoni remained unbeaten on 30 runs off 16 balls, hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes, he didn’t significantly impact the match. Once again, Rachin Ravindra did well, scoring 41 runs, while Ravindra Jadeja contributed 25 runs. But in the end, everything went in vain, but now, just like previous IPL matches, some players became heroes while others, from whom there were high expectations, failed miserably. Take a look at who became a hero and who failed for his team in the CSK vs RCB IPL 2025 match.
Hits
Rajat Patidar
A complete gunner for RCB right now is none other than captain Rajat Patidar, who became the second captain after Rahul Dravid to lead the team to victory against CSK at Chepauk. What Patidar did was incredible.
If we talk about his personal batting performance, his crucial knock of 51 runs off 32 balls was one of the key reasons why RCB managed to post a total of 196. Although Tim David’s firepower in the final overs played a role, it was Patidar’s strike rate of 160 that pushed the team to a strong total.
Moreover, his smart bowling selections—deciding whom to give the ball to and when—became a major factor in RCB thumping CSK, that too in Chennai.
Yash Dayal
It looks like Yash Dayal is slowly and steadily becoming a nemesis for CSK. Everyone remembers his magical performance last season, which pushed CSK out of the competition. Today as well, his heroics at a crucial moment completely turned the game in RCB’s favour.
He first deceived the dangerous Rachin Ravindra, who was completely cleaned up, and then sent Shivam Dube back to the pavilion after playing him on. Surely, what Dayal is doing for RCB is incredible, and fans are eager to see what he delivers in the upcoming games.
Noor Ahmad
A hero from the losing camp! Yes, CSK lost the game, but one player who is truly shining is spinner Noor Ahmad. In the last match against Mumbai Indians, he delivered an impressive performance, and once again, he stood out, this time against RCB.
He deceived two of the biggest names in world cricket, Virat Kohli and Phil Salt. In the previous match, Noor picked up four wickets and was named Player of the Match, and this time, he continued his strong performance.
What makes his current form even more special is that, despite CSK having two world-class spinners in Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, Noor is still managing to grab the spotlight with his exceptional bowling. However, it will be interesting to see how he performs in away games, as everyone knows that the Chepauk pitch is a paradise for spinners. The real test is yet to come.
Flops
Ruturaj Gaikwad
Well, today the entire CSK batting lineup failed miserably, and several players came under pressure. On one hand, Rahul Tripathi’s back-to-back failures are now raising questions about his place in the CSK XI. Meanwhile, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad also struggled, failing to score any runs, getting out for a four-ball duck and looking completely out of touch. Fair to say, Josh Hazlewood capitalised on it and dismissed the CSK captain.
Initially, in the first six overs of RCB’s batting, Gaikwad’s bowling changes were quite decent. However, as Rajat Patidar and company started building the innings, CSK began to look vulnerable, especially in the last five overs under his captaincy.
Sam Curran
Failed with the bat and failed with the ball, this is the story of CSK’s Sam Curran against RCB today. In his last over, he was completely dismantled by Tim David, who smashed multiple sixes. He conceded 34 runs in his three overs, finishing with an economy of 11.33.
Then, when he came to bat, he couldn’t contribute much, getting out for just 8 runs. There are certainly big expectations from him, but today he couldn’t rise to the occasion. Now, all eyes will be on his upcoming performances, as he remains a key all-rounder for CSK.
Deepak Hooda
Again, a scenario similar to Rahul Tripathi, Deepak Hooda is also not contributing with the bat when needed the most. He is completely out of touch and, as someone known for providing big runs and rotating the strike, his performance today was lacking. CSK has surely invested heavily in him at the IPL auction, securing his services for 1.72 crores. However, in the two matches he has played this season, things haven’t really gone well.
