Slowly and steadily, IPL 2025 is heating up with some crucial games. Although it’s just the start, we have already witnessed some impressive matches, and recent game was no exception as Gujarat Titans faced five-time champions Mumbai Indians.
If you are a GT fan, then surely you are happy, as the IPL 2022 champions convincingly defeated MI. Looking at the game, Mumbai Indians’ regular captain, Hardik Pandya, made his return, but he couldn’t make a significant impact.
Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first. Batting first, Gujarat Titans posted a total of 196/8 in 20 overs, thanks to Sai Sudharsan’s brilliant knock of 63 runs.
While chasing, Mumbai Indians managed to score 160/6 in 20 overs. But who were the players who impressed, and who struggled to make an impact? Take a look at some key names.
Hits
Sai Sudharsan
It was Sai Sudharsan’s 63-run knock that gave GT a good start. Yes, on the other hand, Shubman Gill was also looking in great touch, but for the majority of the time, it was Sudharsan’s innings that grabbed attention.
In fact, the best part of his innings was his strike rate of over 150, which we don’t often see from this star batter. He took on the bowlers, smashing 4 fours and 2 sixes. At one point, he looked set to stamp a hundred, but he was eventually dismissed by Trent Boult.
Overall, he played really well, batted for a long time, and ensured that GT posted a good score.
Mohammed Siraj
You cannot write off Mohammed Siraj! Yes, he had a poor outing against Punjab Kings, but he quickly got back on track. In this game, he cleaned up MI batters’ timbers and conceded just 34 runs while taking 2 wickets, including the big wicket of former MI skipper Rohit Sharma.
Prasidh Krishna
The Player of the Match in this game was GT pacer Prasidh Krishna, who not only took the crucial wickets of Tilak Varma and the dangerous Suryakumar Yadav but also bowled economically on the Ahmedabad surface. With all his variations, he completely deceived the MI batters, and it’s fair to say that his bowling was one of the main reasons why MI struggled and failed to score quick runs when that was their only requirement.
Flops
Rohit Sharma
Failed in the last game, failed here as well! Rohit Sharma’s poor form in IPL 2025 is the discussion topic right now, as the Mumbai Indians opener lasted only four deliveries at the crease. After hitting two boundaries off Mohammed Siraj, Sharma missed his sharp in-swinging delivery that sneaked between his bat and pad, crashing into the stumps. The Gujarat Titans pacer’s brilliant delivery left Rohit with no answer. In the last match as well, he didn’t score many runs—in fact, he got out for a duck, which was his 18th duck in IPL history.
Hardik Pandya
Although with the ball, yes, Hardik Pandya surely impressed once again in his four overs, where he conceded 29 runs and picked up two wickets. However, when MI needed some crucial runs with the bat, he couldn’t produce any magic. In the 17 balls he faced, he looked out of touch most of the time on the slow surface of Ahmedabad. He managed to score only 11 runs at a strike rate of 64, showcasing how he struggled completely.
Robin Minz
Although it’s just the beginning for 22-year-old Robin Minz, a wicketkeeper-batter from Jharkhand much like MS Dhoni, he is known for his aggressive batting. However, he once again failed to show any firepower on the field. Coming in as an impact player, he managed to score just 3 runs. He had also failed against CSK earlier.
Minz was picked up by Gujarat Titans last season for INR 3.6 crore, but a motorcycle accident kept him out. In the IPL 2025 auction, he was acquired by Mumbai Indians for INR 65 lakh. There was a lot of excitement around this batter, and even the MI camp had expressed multiple times how talented he is. However, he is yet to produce runs.
That said, judging a young batter based on such a short sample size would be unfair. It will be interesting to see how things come for him in the upcoming games.
