Rohit Sharma and Co. scripted history as they went on to become the first Asian side to win a Test match in Cape Town. Team India defeated South Africa by 7 wickets in the second Test match as they also levelled the two-match Test series.
“Obviously, a great feat. We learnt from the mistakes made in the first Test. We had some plans ready. We executed and got the desired results. The lead was crucial, but it wasn’t pleasing to see how the last six wickets fell. Siraj was very, very special. We spoke about keeping things simple and let the pitch to do the rest, and that’s exactly what happened. It’s always challenging to tour South Africa. In the last 4-5 years, we have become a good travelling team,” said Rohit Sharma after the match.
In another record, the second Test match between India and South Africa was the shortest match ever in terms of overs bowled. The game was completed in just 107 overs.
Speaking about the final innings of the match, Rohit Sharma and Co. required just 79 runs to win. Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal took the aggressive approach before getting out for 28 runs. Shubman Gill, too, began in an attacking manner by hitting a boundary each off Rabada and Burger. But the India No. 3 was done in by the lack of bounce and became Rabada’s first victim of the innings.
Soon, Virat Kohli was dismissed by Marco Jansen, but it didn’t bother India as they eventually crossed the finish line in just 12 overs. Skipper Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten for his 17 runs off 22 balls including two boundaries.
