Highest powerplay scores for RCB in IPL history ft. 80/0 vs KKR

Virat Kohli and Phil Salt gave a sumptuous start to RCB in IPL 2025 opener.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) got off to a blistering start in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 opener against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens. The visitors posted their second-highest powerplay score, reaching 80/0 in the first six overs. RCB’s highest powerplay score (92/1) that came against Gujarat Titans (GT) remains intact.

Powerplay mayhem by Salt, Kohli

Chasing 175, the RCB openers, Phil Salt and Virat Kohli, were in scintillating form, taking the KKR bowlers to task. Salt was particularly aggressive, smashing 49 runs off just 23 deliveries, including 7 fours and 1 six. Kohli, on the other hand, played a more subdued role, scoring 25 runs off 9 balls, with 2 fours and 2 sixes.

The KKR bowlers struggled to contain the RCB batters, with Vaibhav Arora and Spencer Johnson being taken for 32 and 21 runs respectively in their first two overs. Harshit Rana, who bowled the final over of the powerplay, managed to stem the flow of runs slightly, conceding just 5 runs.

At the end of the powerplay, RCB were in a commanding position, with Salt and Kohli looking unstoppable. Fascinatingly, Salt, who played IPL 2024 for KKR, got out for 56 when he got holed out off Varun Chakaravarthy’s bowling.
