Here’s why Team India decided to send Shubman Gill & Avesh Khan back home from Florida

Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan were part of the reserves for Team India in the T20 World Cup, and will head back home now.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan will be sent back home, after the USA leg of the T20 World Cup. While the reason was understood, that Team India wanted to stick to the winning combination, nothing concrete had come forward. Now, as per a report in News18, it has emerged that Shubman and Avesh will not travel with the team for the Super 8 in West Indies, since the management didn’t feel the need to carry a squad of 19.

As per the upcoming schedule, in the Super 8, there would be IND vs AFG on June 20, IND vs BAN (maybe) on June 22, and IND vs AUS on June 24. If India do make the semis, then the match would be on June 27. “There was very little gap between games for any extensive practice. So it was decided by the management to release the two players as matches are literally back to back and there is very little scope for marathon practice sessions to happen. Khaleel is already there to ensure the left-arm variety in nets if needed,” said a source.

No Avesh Khan & Shubman Gill for IND vs CAN

In fact, it seems the BCCI has already made the arrangements for the duo, and they won’t be travelling to the ground for the IND vs CAN match on June 15. On the 15-member squad is to be allowed in the dugout.

IND vs CAN Depends on Florida Weather

After the USA vs IRE match was washed out on June14, the possibility of an IND vs CAN match on Saturday is bleak too. Due to the inclement weather, Team India had no practice session, and opted to stay in the team hotel, and went for a gym session. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma & Co. are set to leave for Barbados on June 16 after their match, in a charter flight, and post that will go to Antigua, and St. Lucia.
