Virat Kohli has praised former Indian mental conditioning coach Paddy Upton and said that he helped him in regaining the perspective during the last T20 World Cup. To note, Paddy Upton was Gary Kirsten’s assistant during India’s 2011 World Cup campaign. He was brought back by BCCI on a short-term basis during the last T20 WC. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli said having constant conversations with Upton helped him get into a strong mental space.
“I had a lot of conversations with him, and I really appreciated him in that moment because he constantly kept me in check with my checkpoints of being present. Keep doing things that you did when you were playing good cricket,” Kohli told Star Sports.

Kohli further went on to praise Paddy Upton. The South African also worked with KL Rahul during his second tenure with India Cricket Team.
“What I went through, what is the cycle of having a long career, the ups and downs because he understood from a cricketing perspective (Paddy Upton); he’s played cricket himself. And after that becoming a sports psychologist is a different kind of space,” Kohli added.
Meanwhile, Kohli will be seen in action against the Netherlands. The Men in Blue will take on Dutch side in their final group stage match of the World Cup. The encounter will take place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on November 12 (Saturday).
