Healthy Politicians at Constitution Club of India now, courtsey BCCI

The BCCI has donated 2.25 crore to the Constitution Club of India for gym equipment.

The Indian Cricket Board has contributed to lawmakers’ physical fitness. The Constitution Club of India (CCI) in the nation’s capital has received a donation of Rs 2.25 crore from the wealthiest athletic organization in the nation for gym equipment.

The BCCI released the minutes of its December 21, 2022 apex council meeting this week, at which the CCI request was granted. Rajeev Shukla, a Congress MP and vice-president of the BCCI who also serves as the secretary of sports for the CCI, was present at the meeting.

Shukla was unavailable for comment, but a BCCI representative said that the board has previously given financial support to CCI.

“Earlier too, CCI had asked for funds and the BCCI had given it to them. At that point, the request was for improvement of infrastructure,” the official said as per Indian Express.

According to the meeting minutes, BCCI secretary Jay Shah informed the members that CCI had asked for money to purchase gym equipment.

“Based on the negotiation on the cost and availability of the documents, a final quote was submitted to BCCI which provided a final cost of Rs 2.27 crores… It is suggested that a lumpsum of Rs 2.25 crores be donated to CCI directly towards purchase of Gym equipment. The members took note of the update and approved the lumpsum donation of Rs 2.25 crores to CCI directly…,” the minutes of the meeting stated.

BCCI paid huge TAX

The Board of Control for Cricket in India paid Rs 1,159 crore in income tax in the fiscal year 2021–22, a 37% increase from the previous year.

In a written response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary revealed details regarding the income tax paid by the BCCI and its earnings and expenses for the preceding five years based on the filings submitted.

In the fiscal year 2020–21, BCCI paid Rs 844.92 crore less in income tax than it did the year before, when it paid Rs 882.29 crore.

The board increased its tax payments in FY2019 from Rs 596.63 crore to Rs 815.08 crore.

For the fiscal year 2021–2022, the BCCI recorded revenue of Rs 7,606 crore and expenses of more than Rs 3,064 crore.

In 2020–21, it had revenues of Rs 4,735 crore and costs of Rs 3,080 crore.
