KL Rahul vs Shreyas Iyer in IND vs PAK?
Ishan Kishan’s recent form in ODIs has put him in Team India’s key members category. The 25-year-old hit an 81-ball 82 in his first match against Pakistan in India’s Asia Cup 2023 opener, helping India recover from 66 for 4. He has scored 4 half-centuries in the last 4 ODIs.
With KL Rahul coming after a long gap, Team India might consider giving the wicketkeeping responsibility to Kishan.
Notably, Shreyas Iyer, who also returned to cricketing action after a long break, could be the player who can make way for Rahul.
Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar also pitched in his views about the possibility of KL Rahul vs Shreyas Iyer for a spot in Asia Cup 2023 Super 4s.
Speaking to India Today, Gavaskar said Team India might pick one between KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer.
“It could be a fight between KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer in the Super Fours in the Asia Cup. With the kind of form that Ishan Kishan showcased against Pakistan… if both Rahul and Ishan play, it might be a good idea to let Ishan keep wickets because if Rahul has undergone recovery from an injury, then getting up and down might be a bit of an issue. It makes sense to have Ishan to keep wickets”, Gavaskar said.
It would be interesting to see whether Team India manages to fit KL Rahul into the XI or if the star player will have to sit out for the all-important IND vs PAK match in the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4s clash.
