Head games! Australia opener teases with a ‘India want a revenge’ remark, fancy another IND vs AUS WC final

Travis Head proved to be a thorn in India's dream at both WTC Final (2023) and ODI World Cup 2023 Finals.

Indian cricket fans are still reeling from the gut-wrenching defeats against Australia in the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup finals last year. The architect of those victories, Australian dasher Travis Head, has stirred the pot again by expressing his desire for a rematch in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 final.

Three World Cup Finals in a span of one year?

Travis Head seems to relish the prospect of facing a ‘revenge-driven’ Indian team. He acknowledges the heightened drama and anticipation surrounding a potential India-Australia final again. Last year, his exceptional batting, especially the centuries in both finals, proved to be the thorn in India’s side. The memory of his match-winning knock in the ODI World Cup final, which secured Australia’s record-extending sixth title, at a packed Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, remains particularly painful for Indian fans.

Travis Head was quoted as saying by Times of India: “It would be nice. It would be nice to be in the final. I think everyone in India would love that, especially considering what’s happened in the last two finals. So, I’m sure India wants some revenge at some point. There would be good theater around it if that were the case. Let’s hope that we’re in it, and let’s hope you’re in it, and we’ll see what happens.”

While India and Australia are not in the same group, they can certainly meet in the later stages of the tournament. Head’s comments add fuel to the fire, raising the stakes for both teams and further intensifying this classic cricketing rivalry.
