He tore Varun Chakravarthy’s shirt: Ex-KKR batter testifies Pandit’s ‘militant’ way of coaching

N Jagadeesan played 13 IPL matches in all, and went on to score 162 runs in those matches, at an average of 18.

Over the last few days, ever since KKR’s former recruit David Weise opened up on coach Chandrakant Pandit’s ‘militant’ style of coaching, the players, current & ex, seem to be divided in two camps. There are a few who have not taken the charges seriously, while there are others who have testified to his strict ways. Whatever the case may be, KKR has started the IPL 2024 with a bang, winning three out of three matches.

Ex-KKR Players vs Chandrakant Pandit

Now, another former KKR player N Jagadeesan has opened up about a story, highlighting Pandit’s strange ways. Talking during the KKR vs DC match during Tamil commentary for Star Sports, Jagadeesan said that Pandit tore Varun Chakravarthy’s t-shirt.

“Last year in KKR camp Chandrakant Pandit said that day was sleeveless day and that day Varun (Chakravarty) wore full sleeves accidentally. He called him aside and tore the shirt to sleeveless with scissors,” N Jagadeesan said.

David Wiese’s Claims

The entire controversy had started when Weise revealed that Pandit was ‘very strict’ and a ‘disciplinarian’. “He (Pandit) is known in India as a very militant type of coach. He is very strict, very disciplinarian, and that type of stuff. Sometimes in franchise cricket, when you have overseas guys, who’ve played all over the world, they don’t need anyone coming and telling them how they need to behave, what they need to wear, and what they need to do the whole time. Wiese had said on the podcast ‘Hitman for Hire: A Year in the Life of a Franchise Cricketer.

Russell’s Stance

On the other hand, there is a certain Andre Russell, who defended the team coach. “I’ve had numerous conversations with numerous coaches in different franchises that I’ve played for. Chandu sir was helping me get back that confidence. This franchise gave me confidence last year as well. It’s all about the mindset. I was thinking about just going out there and doing what I do best.”

“We’ve been working with him from last year. I think when you’re working with a coach for the first time, you have to make sure that you adjust to their philosophy. There have to be rules. We are professionals. So, we don’t complain. I try to do the best for this franchise.”
