All the attention has turned to Virat Kohli, despite the India Cricket Team winning their opening game of the ICC Champions Trophy. The Men in Blue registered a 6-wicket win but all eyes were on Kohli who failed to score big runs and was dismissed cheaply. Former head coach Anil Kumble has claimed that the star batter is trying too hard on himself with huge expectations looming over his head.
Virat Kohli drew criticism from fans after his rather slow innings. He took 10 balls to get off the mark, scored a single boundary, and ate away 38 deliveries to manage 22 runs. Kumble claimed that Virat Kohli is trying too hard to prove his worth, mainly owing to the huge expectations that have been set on him.
“I feel he is trying a bit too hard. When you have that kind of pressure, and when you have that kind of expectations, you suddenly sort of start putting undue importance to all of that, and try hard to do well. When you do that, you are not really relaxed,” Anil Kumble said on ESPN Cricinfo.
“I think he is trying too hard, you can see it in the way he is going about his innings. He just needs to not worry about it. He just needs to come in, and not worry about anything else,” he added.

The former head coach claimed that Kohli doesn’t need to worry too much. He instructed Kohli to focus on his batting. He further added that starting against spin on Dubai’s surface needs a lot of confidence.
“To start off against spin, on that kind of a surface, you need a lot of confidence. He is certainly trying too hard to maneuver that. He is a good player of spin when he is in form. I get a feeling watching him bat, I think he is putting a lot more pressure on himself, so he just needs to relax a little bit. Not worry too much about the outcome of what is happening on the field,” he concluded.
