England’s veteran batter Joe Root’s struggle against Jasprit Bumrah continued as the former got dismissed by the Indian pacer for the ninth time in Test cricket. Root, who looked set for a big total on a flat deck, played a reverse ramp shot and get caught at slip to give India the opening in IND vs ENG 3rd Test in Rajkot.
The England all-rounder departed on 18 off 31 deliveries and was distraught after the dismissal.
Former England spinner Phil Tufnell criticised Joe Root for being swayed by the ‘Bazball’ and avoiding playing his natural shots.
“Joe Root is not a Bazballer. He’s a fabulous player but he’s been sucked into a game that doesn’t suit everyone, and it doesn’t suit Joe. Reverse sweeping, ten minutes into day three to the best seam bowler in the world, fraught with danger – come on!”, Tufnell said on BBC Sports.
Root has struggled to find form in the ongoing series, posting scores of 29, 2, 5, 16, and in the five innings. His unorthodox dismissals in the recent matches has left many English cricket legends frustrated.
