‘He is being overly aggressive’ Sunil Gavaskar issues word of advice for Shubman Gill

India had a lot of hopes from the right-handed batter, but Gill could not do justice to his talent in the first Test, scoring 2 and 26 in both innings respectively.

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar on Friday issued some sound advice to Indian cricketer Shubman Gill. Gill, who was part of the Indian team that lost by an innings and 32 runs in the IND vs SA 1st Test, scored 2 and 26 respectively in the two innings. Despite not being up to the mark in the Test match, Sunil Gavaskar is pinning his hopes on the talented batter.

India meekly surrendered their dream of winning their first Test series in South Africa as the Proteas put up a dominant display with both the bat and the ball to outsmart India in the IND vs SA 1st Test in Centurion. The Indian batters struggled to find their rhythm in front of a determined Proteas bowling line-up with Kagiso Rabada proving too hot to handle. Many Indian batters faltered in both innings, with Shubman Gill being one of them.

India had a lot of hopes from the right-handed batter, but Gill could not do justice to his talent in the first Test. Gill gave his wicket away cheaply to Nadre Burger and Marco Jansen in two innings respectively. Gill would certainly look to make a comeback in the IND vs SA 2nd Test.

Speaking on Star Sports, Gavaskar was asked about what went wrong in Gill’s batting approach. Gavaskar said, “I feel Shubman Gill is being overly aggressive. He has to keep the difference between red ball and white ball in mind while playing shots. The red ball swings a bit more than the white ball. He played some good shots in the second innings. It seemed he would go on to play a long innings but he made the mistake of playing across the line. He is the type of player who works on his mistakes, so I’m hopeful.”
