India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour has backed Rajat Patidar. The middle order batter has come under the scanner after back to back bad performances. However, the board apparently has their backing on the player. Rathour has claimed that Patidar is a good batter and he doesn’t become a bad player after 2 bad games.
While the new debutants like Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan impressed on their debuts, the same hasn’t been the case for Patidar. Having made his debut in Vizag Test, he managed 32 and 9 runs respectively. In the Rajkot Test, his form dipped even further. He managed just 5 and 0.
As a result, naturally questions were raised on Patidar. But with KL Rahul still missing and out injured, Patidar will continue to be a part of the India Playing XI. And with the backing of the board, Patidar will be keen to put up a big score in the Ranchi Test.
“As far as having conversations with him [Patidar], yes, we have been having a lot of conversations with him but one thing he needs to understand is that this is how this game goes. He has been batting really well, he has scored a lot of runs to get into the team and doesn’t become a bad player from two matches,” Vikram Rathour said in the pre match press conference.
Rathour claimed that Patidar is a good player. After a commendable domestic and India A stint, he got his debut. Rathour explained that he faced awkward dismissals, but will surely come good.
“He is a very good player. He has really batted well in whatever cricket he has played. He has had a few tough games, a few awkward dismissals where the ball has stopped on him, this can happen, this is how the game goes. Absolutely no doubt that he is a good player and on his day he will come up with a very impactful innings,” Rathour concluded.
