Former Indian player Irfan Pathan has come up with an out-of-the-box solution for Indian Premier League side Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the start of IPL 2024. The former all-rounder has reckoned that LSG captain KL Rahul can bat down the order for the IPL side. According to Irfan, moving KL Rahul down the order will help LSG as well as the KL put forth his case as a middle-order batter-keeper in the Indian side in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Due to a thigh injury suffered while fielding, Rahul was limited to playing in just nine games during the last Indian Premier League season.
Pathan was asked if Rahul batting in the middle order would benefit the Lucknow Super Giants during a Star Sports discussion. Pathan elaborated in the affirmative when he replied.
“He is a car with gears in an era of automatic cars. KL can bat in any gear from first to fifth. He even has a sixth gear. So considering that, KL Rahul batting down the order might not be bad at all,” said Pathan.
He went on to say that Rahul batting down the order could mean South Africa’s Quinton de Kock and West Indies hard-hitter Kyle Mayers could open the batting for the Lucknow-based franchise.
“It could be good for the team and him as well. The team combination could include both Quinton de Kock and Kyle Mayers in such a scenario. If both of them get a place, they can go with an all-Indian pace attack,” Pathan added.
