Kick-started his international career: Gambhir backs Sanju Samson for longer run after maiden ton

After scoring a statement century in the IND vs SA 3rd ODI, Sanju Samson has got backing from Gautam Gambhir for a longer run in India Team.

A long-wait has come to an end. After an eight-year long wait, Sanju Samson has hit his maiden century in an India jersey. In and out of the team, Sanju Samson needed to make a statement and he has with maiden ODI century in the IND vs SA 3rd ODI. Now that the monkey is off his back, former India opener Gautam Gambhir said the century will kick start his international career and force the selectors to take notice.

“He is very talented and he has shown that in IPL. But today, with that ton, he has kickstarted his international career. When you score a century, you put pressure on the selectors. Now, we have to see what happens as the focus will be on T20 World Cup,” Gautam Gambhir said on Star Sports mid-innings show.  

Sanju Samson came to bat at a crucial juncture with India losing quick wickets. But from 49/2, Sanju Samson first partnered with KL Rahul to steady the ship.

As KL Rahul fell for 21, Sanju Samson continued the rebuilding process with Tilak Varma. The two added 116 runs for the fourth-wicket on a pitch where it got difficult to bat on as the ball got older.

However, Sanju Samson brought up his fifty off 66 balls before hitting gas. The next 50 runs came in 45 balls as he finally reached the three-digit mark in India jersey.
