Mohammed Shami can’t stop winning. After being awarded the Arjuna Award for his achievement on the cricket field, Shami has taken home the Polly Umrigar Award for his incredible performance in the 2019-20 season. The fearsome fast bowler was given the award during the 2024 BCCI Award ceremony, with his teammates present there.
After receiving the record, Mohammed Shami expressed the feeling of getting recognized for his performance and thanked his team and the doctors for supporting him during his tough time.
“It is a different feeling. When you work so hard and come from a place where there is a dearth of opportunities, I have played mostly with injuries. Thanks to the doctors and the support staff. I am happy with the team for always supporting me.“
When jokingly asked about his trophy cabinet after winning the Arjuna and now the Best International Cricketer award, Shami said, “I have a large room for more awards to come.“
Mohammed Shami did incredibly well for the India cricket team in 2019, picking up his career-best 77 wickets, which included a hat-trick in the ODI World Cup 2019. He ended the year with the most ODI wickets by any bowler (42) and was rightly given the Best International Cricketer award.
