Michael Powell, Warwickshire great and the man under whom Jacob Bethell blossomed, feels satisfied that his protégé would be playing with the likes of Virat Kohli at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Just three months into his career, Bethell has shown the talent he possesses and already has 6 half-centuries to his name for England across formats.
Bethell to learn from Kohli
Michael believes that Bethell will blossom at RCB. Apart from Kohli, the southpaw will also play alongside compatriots like Liam Livingstone and Phil Salt, who will make his first year in the Indian Premier League (IPL) less frantic. The chance to be around legends on his team and the opposition will help Bethell, and playing in front of thousands of fans will be a great learning experience for the 21-year-old.
“For him to be put into the IPL auction, to be chosen, and to have the opportunity to play cricket in that environment is incredible. The IPL is the biggest league in the world, and now he has the chance to be around players like Virat Kohli,” Michael told the Times of India.
Jacob Bethell ready for RCB & IPL
Bethell’s coach is certain that his protégé belongs with the RCB and in the IPL. The 21-year-old has an interesting journey, shifting his base from the Caribbean to the United Kingdom. He’s already played for England across formats and that too with great success.
“I know Jacob is made for this—he’s been working toward this his whole life. It’s an incredible opportunity for someone who has put in so much effort. I’m sure RCB fans will thoroughly enjoy watching him, as he’s looking forward to becoming part of the RCB family,” the coach added.
