Harshit Rana all but confirms IPL retention at KKR, a spot in IND vs AUS playing XI

Harshit Rana could be a big revelation in the upcoming IND vs AUS Test series, and could be a good replacement for Hardik Pandya.

India’s long wait for a genuine, all-format fast-bowling all rounder could end soon. After having impressed in IPL 2024 for KKR, now, Harshit Rana is making waves in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, for Delhi, that could just do a world of good to him. Playing in the Ranji match against Assam in Delhi, Harshit picked up a fifer in the first innings, and then scored a crucial 59 from 78 deliveries, to take Delhi to 454, and give them a lead of 124 runs.

Harshit Rana, India’s Potential Fast-Bowling All-Rounder

That was crucial from the perspective of the match. But more than that, he has now only presented a stronger case to be retained by KKR in the upcoming IPL Retentions. He is still an uncapped player, and can be retained by the franchise for INR 4 Cr only. Given his 19 wickets from 13 matches in IPL 2024, he would be a steal retention for KKR, who would be in a strong position at the auction table.

If that is not enough, his selection, and then his performance in the Ranji Trophy, could also mean that he could straightway be picked in the playing XI during the IND vs AUS Tests, in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His credential speak a thousand words. In 9 matches, he has picked up 36 wickets, at an average of 24, while with the bat, he has scored 410 runs, at an average of 41. He has even smashed a ton.

Delhi vs Assam, Ranji Trophy

As far as the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Assam is concerned, Assam is currently in their second innings at 44/3 and are 40 runs behind Delhi. After Assam had scored 330 in the first innings, Delhi scored 454 in reply. For now, the hosts look poised to win.
