England cricketers Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid have backed the two-year ban on Harry Brook from the IPL. The batter became the first player to earn this punishment after his decision to pull out of IPL 2025 in the last-minute. The BCCI introduced a new policy which states that a player pulling out of the tournament without a valid reason will invite a two-year ban from participating in the IPL auction.
Brook’s teammates give thumbs up for 2-year IPL ban
Speaking on Beard Before Cricket podcast, Ali opined that Brook had messed things up for his team by withdrawing in the last-minute. The KKR star backed the ban on Harry, stating that a lot of players did it in the past and eventually came back to get a better financial package.
“It’s not harsh. I kind of agree with it, in a way, because a lot of people do that. A lot of people have done it in the past, and then they come back in and they end up getting a better financial package, or whatever it is. And he kind of messes a lot of things up as well at the same time,” Ali said.
Brook was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 6.25 crore in the mega auction. Ali, who is now with KKR, pointed out that Brook had forced DC to rejig everything with his last minute decision. He said that an injury or personal reasons could have been considered as an exception, but that wasn’t the case here.
“Forget him for a second, but if you do pull out, the rule is that you get a ban unless it’s for family reasons or… due to injury or something. If it’s injury or something, it’s different. But I think if you just pull out, then it’s. I kind of agree with the teams. You actually mess a lot of stuff up,” Ali added.
Adil Rashid echoed Ali’s opinion and said that the rule wasn’t harsh at all. He pointed out that Brook was very well aware that the rule was in place and what were the consequences if he pulled out.
