Harry Brook slams maiden Test double century on Multan ‘highway’ in PAK vs ENG 1st Test

After Joe Root, Harry Brook become the second England batter to score a double hundred in the 1st innings of PAK vs ENG 1st Test in Multan

England cricket team’s Harry Brook joined Joe Root in the 200 club as he slammed his maiden Test double century. The batter continued to mount misery on the Pakistan bowlers on Day 4 of PAK vs ENG 1st Test, helping England take the lead. The surface in Multan has helped the bowlers the least in the game, with 1200+ runs already been scored while only 13 wickets have fallen.

Harry Brooks slams maiden Test double hundred

Brook and Root steadied the ship for England after the side lost skipper Ollie Pope for a duck and Zak Crawley later in the 1st innings. While Root played the role of an aggressor, Brook played his part with perfection at the other end. The batter took over 240 deliveries to reach his double century, helping England take the lead in the course of his innings.

This is the second time two England batters have scored double hundreds in the same innings. G Fowler (201) & Mike Gatting (207) were the first pair to do so against India in Chennai in 1985. Brook has struck 20 boundaries and one six so far in the flat surface in Multan.

Root and Brook have dominated the first session of play on Day 4, continuing to frustrate the Pakistan bowlers. The former England skipper went on to slam his 6th Test double hundred, adding another feather to his cap. Meanwhile, this is Harry Brook’s highest score in his Test career so far.

The pitch at Multan has been criticized by many former cricketers as a ‘bowler’s graveyard’. Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen went on to claim that such surfaces would only contribute in destroying Test cricket. Nasser Hussain, too, echoed similar sentiments as he advocated for a more balanced contest between bat and ball in the longest format of the game.
