The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is all set to start today (October 3) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The tournament first took place in 2009, and this is the ninth edition. The women’s T20I grand event has seen only three winners, with Australia standing out as the top nation, having claimed victory in six of the eight editions held so far.
This year, seven cricketers are set to participate in their ninth T20 World Cup. Notable names include India’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, Kiwi Sophie Devine, and star Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry, among others. Suzie Bates (New Zealand)
Suzie Bates is not just the top scorer in T20Is; she is also the highest run-scorer in the tournament. In just 36 matches, she is the only player to surpass 1,000 runs. She will be looking to help New Zealand secure their first title alongside skipper Sophie Devine.
Harmanpreet Kaur (India)

Sophie Devine (New Zealand)

Stafanie Taylor (West Indies)

Ellyse Perry (Australia)
As the all-rounder with the most appearances (42) in the Women’s T20 World Cup, Perry is also the third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament’s history, with 40 wickets in 42 matches.
Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka)
The Sri Lankan captain, Chamari Athapaththu, who recently led her team to their first Women’s Asia Cup title, aims to guide her side to their inaugural T20 World Cup victory. She has played 28 matches in the tournament and boasts a total of 666 runs.
