Harmanpreet Kaur defends actions vs Bangladesh, claims ‘I don’t regret anything’

Harmanpreet Kaur has claimed she has no regrets with her actions despite facing 2-match ban in Asian Games 2023

Despite being handed a 2-match ban in the Asian Games 2023, India Women’s Cricket team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has no regrets about her actions. The Indian skipper was charged by the ICC for her disdainful actions in the third and final ODI match in the India vs Bangladesh series that took place the previous month in Dhaka.

“I will not say that I regret anything because at the end of the day as a player you want to see that fair things are happening. As a player you always have the right to express yourself and what you’re feeling,” she told The Cricket Paper on the sidelines of the Women’s Hundred, where she is playing for Trent Rockets.

“I don’t think I said anything wrong to any player or any person. I just said what happened on the field. I don’t regret anything,” she added.

What happened with Harmanpreet Kaur?

The Indian skipper was extremely disappointed with the umpiring decisions and lost her cool. She then went on to hit and smashed the stumps in a fit of rage. Such was her rage that she went on to claim that the umpiring has been pathetic. After the conclusion of the game and during the post-match presentation when both sides were asked to picture together, Harmanpreet Kaur reportedly asked the Bangladesh side to bring the umpires in hint claiming that the officials played for the hosts.

The ICC however didn’t take Harmanpreet’sactions very nicely. She accepted her fines claiming she was guilty. She was handed 3 demerit points for dissent and public criticism. Apart from the demerits, she further received two fines with 50% and 25% of fine from her match fees. As a result of her demerit points, she has been banned by the ICC for two games.

The ICC rules are very clear on this matter. If a player accumulated 4 demerit points within a span of 24 months, the player gets a ban of either 1 Test match, 2 ODIs or 2 T20I matches, based on whichever game comes in the schedule. Therefore the Indian skipper will miss the first two games of the Asia Games which India will take part in Hanghzou.

The Indian team will go on to play directly in the quarter-finals. Therefore, should India go on to reach the finals, only then can Harmanpreet Kaur get her chance to play for the Indian eves.
